The Little Black Dress
The
leader in women's fashion in the 1920s was undoubtedly Gabrielle
Chanel and perhaps her most endearing creation was the Little
Black Dress, the universal "must have" for all womens
clothing collections.
Born in 1883 'Coco' Chanel, as she called herself, reigned supreme
in the era of the flapper - and whilst her creations were predominantly
in soft jersey, in tones of beige, cream and sand it was her iconic
little black dress that survives and flourished even in todays fickle
world of fashion and haute couture.
In the era of Art Deco, Coco Chanel revolutionised fashion for
women - simple lines that were not only the modern look of the day,
but were easy to wear with no need for restrictive corsets.
The little black dress is Chanel's fashion legacy - it varies little
in style - halter neck, strapless or with the thinnest of straps,
cut short or to the knee this little black dress is a staple of
many a woman's wardrobe.
When a girl just can't decide what to wear it's always a safe bet
that the timeless little black dress will fit the bill. |
