Coloured Contact Lenses

Over the past 10 years we have seen the advent of a new fashion and that’s the wearing of coloured contact lenses by people who want to make a fashion statement. They are people who don’t need to wear coloured contact lenses (they don’t have any eye deficiencies) but choose to as they want to stand out from the crowd.

The main reason for the growth in sales of coloured lenses has been the use of them in block buster films. This has brought it to the front in people’s minds and this has also seen a big leap in demand for fun lenses.

The straight eye colour changing lenses come in a variety of colours like Hazel Turquoise, Amethyst, Blue, Green, Grey, Pure Hazel, Honey, True Sapphire, as well as what are classed as solid colours like Blue, Black, Yellow and Red.

The idea behind these is to change the colour of your eyes but for it to be a totally natural look. I find it strange that you would want to do this but if you have always wanted green eyes for the sake of argument then this at least does give you that opportunity. There are many types of lenses available from a soft daily disposable to a more permanent hard lens. The most popular in this category is the 30 day disposable which means they would last if you were to wear the lens for 30 days, for 8 hours a day. If you take them out then they should always be stored in fresh lens solution in separate compartments in a lens case clearly marked left and right eye. It’s important that after the first wearing the left and right lens don’t get mixed up as there can be quite a variation in the size of your eyes and the soft lens will mould itself to your eye.

The fun lenses appeal to a different market. These are styles like Cats Eye, Flower Power, Spiral, and Zombie. They are designed to make you stand out and are therefore very popular for parties and at certain times of the year sell remarkably well. Zombie lenses for example are particularly popular in the run up to Halloween and the Cats Eye lenses go well near Valentines Day. No doubt there will be some considerable growth in this area over the next few years!!!
