Climbing in the Chamonix Alps, France

Mountaingirl runs fun and challenging climbing workshops and bespoke
guiding for women of all skill levels in the UK and in the Chamonix
Alps in France. It was started to encourage more women to
get out and enjoy the mountains, improve their climbing (or even
just give it a try) and foster self-reliance, safety and confidence
in the hills. And have loads of fun at the same time.
Whether you're a complete novice or experienced leader, Mountaingirl
courses can help improve your climbing (or introduce you to a new
area of climbing you'd like to even just try) , be it alpine rock
climbing, ice climbing, mountaineering, trad climbing or bouldering.
We're also happy to arrange bespoke guiding for you, for a tailor-made
fit. Some of our clients just want to start learning with
us at a local climbing wall and we help others prepare for Himalayan
expeditions, so there is a broad range of experience levels ...
we've even had clients aged 16 to 62 so you're never too old (or
young) to start climbing.
The
courses are ultra fun and lively, but are also special in that we
have a smaller numbers of clients per course (usually a maximum
of 4-6 climbers)... so you can get the very most out of your course,
benefitting from both great tuition and a personalised approach
based completely around your experience, wishes and goals. During
the day you'll climb amidst jaw-droppingly beautiful alpine scenery,
and in the evening before dinner, you can take part in optional
evening theory discussions which cover important basics like avalanche
awareness, how to use avalanche transceivers (ARVAs), glacier
travel and crevasse rescue, anchors, and loads of other valuable
information.
This year the Mountaingirl courses are held in a range of places
like on the beaches of Sardinia, where you can learn to lead on
sport routes and improve your technique (whilst getting a good tan,
having fabulous meals and good wine in the evening, of course),
Intro to Ice Climbing long weekends and week-long and weekend courses
in alpine rock climbing and mountaineering, all held in Chamonix.
In the UK, courses include one-day boulder technique workshops
held in Wales and on the Peak District Gritstone, and "Learn
to Love Trad" courses where you can learn to place - and really
trust- traditional protection like cams and nuts, as well as learn
everything you ever wanted to know about anchors but were afraid
to ask.
It's not all hard graft on the mountain, though. Most importantly,
it's also a great time out, where you'll not only learn valuable
skills, but also make new friends, laugh a lot and be inspired
by other climbers around you, in a truly amazing mountain environment.
Our courses are taught by top female UIAGM fully-qualified mountain
guides, so that you get the highest-quality training and guiding
available... by people who also happen to be some of the world's
best (and nicest) climbers, too. The guides are all hand-picked
for their climbing talent as much as for their great personalities.
And you needn't worry about being just "dragged up a hill".
The guides constantly teach you relevant skills throughout the courses,
so you can start to build up a solid base of knowledge and experience
to rely on as you progress in your climbing once the course is over.
And, they'll keep you laughing and feeling confident if you are
ever nervous, and they will always encourage you and help keep
you going if you ever think you can't. Chamonix offers
plenty of routes that are easy and suitable for beginners as well
as plenty of routes that keep a pro climber on their toes too. Your
guide will always pick routes for you that are appropriate for your
experience and fitness, so you don't have to worry about being in
over your head.
